Hang your pictures professionally: Find the right place for your pictures
On which wall do you want to hang your picture? Do you have a large free area or only a small niche on your wall? Do you want your picture to be displayed in a specific place? If you want to hang larger formats on the wall, you will need more space, while smaller picture frames will also work in smaller rooms. The size of your picture therefore also decides where you want to hang it later.
The optimal height of your image should be approximately at the eye level of the viewer. This is usually the case when two thirds of your image is above eye level and one third below. As a rule of thumb, you can remember that the centre of your picture should be hung at a height of 1.40 and 1.50 metres from the floor. This formula is also often used in galleries or museums. Of course, this does not mean that your frames have to be hung exactly at this height. Rather, you should take your own position in the room into account when hanging your pictures professionally. For example, if you are looking at your picture while sitting on your sofa, you should adjust the height of your picture to your sitting position.
How do I professionally put my artwork on the wall?
You want to hang several pictures on your wall and wonder which hanging is best for you? If you want to arrange a whole wall of pictures, you should lay out your pictures on your floor beforehand. This way you can check the arrangement of your pictures in advance and see how your pictures look together.
A more elegant solution is to cut out the outlines of your picture frames on newspaper and fix them to the wall with masking tape. This way you can test the hanging of your pictures in the room without drilling holes or messing up your wall with nails and arrange your pictures on the wall quickly and easily. You can also easily determine the perfect distances between the pictures. Once the newspaper cuttings have been fixed to the wall with masking tape in the desired arrangement, you can simply hang your pictures above them and remove the papers later.
Hang pictures professionally with picture rail
Gallery rails or picture rails are considered a very professional way of hanging pictures. The advantage of picture rails is that once the gallery rail has been installed, no further drilling is necessary and your walls are spared dowels or screws. The gallery rail is mounted directly below the ceiling or directly on the ceiling. To ensure that your works hang straight later, you should align the rail with a spirit level and hang it on the wall. Simple ropes are then inserted into the picture rail. Adjustable hooks are mounted on the ropes, which you can then use to hang your pictures.
We have summarised the advantages of the gallery rail with the integrated rope suspension and the adjustable picture hooks once again here:
- Height adjustable picture hooks
- Sliding rope suspension
- Hang frame without dowels, screws or nails
- One-time assembly without re-drilling
If you want to hang pictures such as canvas or pictures on panels with a smooth back, picture rails with the existing hook system are not the right hanging system. In addition, you have to use dowels and screws to mount the picture rail. Therefore, unsightly holes remain in your wall even when the picture rail is removed.
