Where do I encounter sawtooth hangers?
Like us, you were probably just at your favorite hardware store around the corner (Obi, Bauhaus, Toom, Globus Baumarkt or Hagebaumarkt, …) or at a furniture store (IKEA or Depot) and bought yourself a beautiful canvas picture. Often, photo canvases or canvas pictures have no mounting system at all. If you don’t want to hang your canvas with a hammer, level, and two nails in a cumbersome way, we have the solution for you.
Sawtooth hangers can be found on many picture frames and are suitable for various frame formats. They come in different designs and sizes. Sawtooth hangers are mostly made of metal and are intended to be screwed onto the frame molding. Thanks to the small sawtooth-shaped notches, you can easily adjust the horizontal position of your picture frames or canvas. The small sawtooth notches on the picture hangers allow the nail to slide smoothly along the brass bridge and simply settle into another sawtooth notch.
This also means that you don’t have to place the sawtooth hanger exactly in the center, as the frame can still be slightly adjusted afterwards. Sawtooth hangers are often used when a picture needs to be mounted on the wall with two hangers due to its size. For this purpose, 2 or 3 pieces are often used to securely hang the frame on the wall.

What are sawtooth hangers?
Sawtooth hangers are found on many picture frames and are also suitable for various frame sizes. They come in different designs and sizes. Sawtooth hangers are mostly made of metal and are intended to be screwed onto the frame rail. The small sawtooths allow you to easily adjust the horizontal position of your picture frames or canvas frames. Thanks to the small sawtooths on the picture hangers, the nail slides smoothly along the brass bridge and simply moves into another sawtooth notch.
This also means that you don’t have to place the sawtooth hanger exactly in the center, as the frame can be slightly adjusted afterwards. Sawtooth hangers are often used when a picture needs to be secured to the wall with two hangers due to its size. In such cases, 2 or 3 pieces are often used to ensure that the frame hangs securely on the wall.
The advantages of our picture hangers compared to the sawtooth hanger
1. Everything included in the set: wall hanger, picture module, as well as adhesive tape, nails, screws, and dowels!
2. There is a wall hanger as well as a picture module, saving you effort when hanging your picture: the wall hanger only needs to be attached to the wall once. The picture module can be used multiple times.
3. Thanks to the EasyClick system, you no longer have to search for the nail behind the picture. The canvas picture seamlessly locks into the wall hanger with the picture module at the back, keeping the picture stable on the wall.
4. Whether your canvas has a center brace or not, the CanvasGAEKKO will hold your picture and find and keep the center of your photo canvas.
5. Regardless of whether your canvas is thick or thin, the picture module can be attached to the wooden frame of your canvas. All canvas thicknesses from 1.6 to 4.5 cm are possible.
6. Due to the modular design, you can always replace your canvas picture or even switch to a different type of picture (pictures on board).
The disadvantages of sawtooth hangers
1. Sawtooth hangers cannot be glued to the wall!
2. Sawtooth hangers can only be nailed or screwed on!
3. Unfortunately, the sets only include nails or screws, so you cannot glue your picture to the wall either! The adhesive tape for mounting on the wall is missing.
4. The sawtooth hanger is designed for attachment to the canvas itself, but there is no clever solution for the wall! The hanging on the wall for the sawtooth hanger is again just a nail or a screw!
5. Multiple nails or screws on the wall are necessary! When using sawtooth hangers on your canvas pictures, you should expect to have to hammer multiple nails or screws into the wall at the same height. The sawtooth hangers need to be held to the left and right of nails or screws.
7. Sawtooth hangers can only be used on wall surfaces where nailing or screwing is possible.
Danger of incorrectly placing the nails or screws in the wall! When choosing to use sawtooth hangers for mounting, it is necessary to mark the exact positions of the nails or screws on the spot of the wall where the picture will hang. Incorrect marking can result in the canvas picture hanging crookedly and requiring additional nails or screws at different heights.
8. As always, you need to search for the nails or hooks behind the canvas when using a sawtooth hanger. The sawtooth hanger must align precisely with the nails; otherwise, the picture may shift or protrude from the wall.
9. The canvas may protrude from the wall.
Sawtooth hangers are designed for specific canvas thicknesses. If your canvas is too wide or too narrow for the purchased sawtooth hanger, it may not hold your picture securely. It could fall off the wall.
10. Sawtooth hangers are not suitable for canvases with or without a center brace. If your canvas is delivered with a center brace, it will require multiple sawtooth hangers and create more work on your wall. If the canvas is delivered without a center brace, the centrally placed sawtooth hanger may not provide sufficient stability for your picture on the wall, causing it to wobble.
The comparison! Our picture hanger compared to the sawtooth hanger
Own wall hanger included in the set
1 point for CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for sawtooth hanger
With CanvasGAEKKO, the wall hanger is included in the set: The hanger can be glued, nailed, or screwed. The wall hanger is attached separately from the picture module at the spot on the wall where you want to see the picture later.
In comparison, the sawtooth hanger is only the attachment on the picture itself, and you have to subsequently attach the sawtooth hanger to the wall with nails or screws!
Own picture module for the canvas
1 point for CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for sawtooth hanger
Thanks to the separate picture module with CanvasGAEKKO, you can change your canvas at any time and replace it with a new image without having to reattach the wall hanger. The wall hanger remains in the same position. Simply attach the picture module to the new canvas and exchange the pictures.
In comparison, with the sawtooth hanger, you have to attach new nails or screws to the wall using a spirit level!
All wall surfaces
1 point for CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for sawtooth hanger
CanvasGAEKKO offers you all three options to secure your picture to the wall: adhesive, nailing, or screwing. This allows you to securely hang your picture on any wall surface in your home, whether it’s wallpaper, concrete, tiles, textured paint, plaster, metal, glass, or plastic.
In comparison, the sawtooth hanger can only be screwed onto concrete and tiles, and nailed onto wallpaper, textured paint, and plaster!
Stick to the wall without drilling & without holes
1 point for CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for sawtooth hanger
You can finally hang your canvas prints on the wall without creating holes. Compared to the sawtooth hanger, CanvasGAEKKO offers you the option to stick the wall hanger to the wall. This allows you to avoid unsightly holes and damage.
In comparison, the sawtooth hanger can only be nailed or screwed.
Nailing to the wall
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
The CanvasGAEKKO set includes 2 high-quality nails that allow you to securely attach the wall hanger to your wall. The wall hanger is designed to be mounted on the wall once. This means you only need to hammer 2 nails into the wall, and there’s no need to readjust the wall hanger when hanging a new canvas of a different size. The wall hanger automatically adjusts the canvas size through its own image module.
In comparison with the sawtooth hanger: The sawtooth hanger requires multiple nails to be attached at different spots on the wall. Depending on the size of your canvas, this might even be far apart, which means that when you switch your picture, you would need to hammer new nails into the wall to re-determine the center.
Screwing to the wall
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
The CanvasGAEKKO comes with 1 high-quality screw and the matching dowel. This allows you to screw the wall hanger securely and centrally into the wall when dealing with robust wall surfaces. Similar to using nails to attach the wall hanger to the wall, screwing it requires only a one-time installation. If you decide to change your picture (e.g., to a smaller or larger one), you don’t need to drill new holes or sink new screws. The wall hanger automatically corrects the center of your canvas through its image module.
In comparison with the sawtooth hanger: For canvas pictures, multiple sawtooth hangers need to be attached with multiple screws at different spots on the wall. You will end up with several holes scattered on the wall. If you later need to hang a larger picture with the sawtooth hanger, new holes have to be drilled. For smaller pictures, you will have an unsightly hole next to the image that needs to be filled.
Canvas directly against the wall without spacing
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
The CanvasGAEKKO presses the canvas directly against the wall due to its construction, eliminating unsightly gaps. The image module pulls the canvas against the wall when it snaps into the wall hanger.
In comparison with the sawtooth hanger: With the sawtooth hanger, it’s possible for your canvas print to have a certain distance from the wall, and it may fall off the wall or shift further away from the wall when touched, for example, by people walking nearby.
Easy installation on the wall without complicated adjustment of nails or screws
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
The wall hanger of the CanvasGAEKKO is precisely attached to the center of the spot where you want to view your canvas later on. If you have good eyes, you can even attach the wall hanger to the wall without a level and stick, nail, or screw it. We recommend using a level. You don’t need anything else because everything else is included in the set: adhesive tape, two nails, a screw, and a plug.
In comparison to the sawtooth hanger: When hanging canvases with a sawtooth hanger, you have to carefully determine where the sawtooth hanger needs to be attached to the image and therefore to the wall. This means you have to precisely mark the spots on the wall, otherwise your image will be crooked or fall off the wall.
No more searching for a nail on the wall (EasyClick system), easily hang pictures on the wall
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
The CanvasGAEKKO is a picture hanger for canvases and a modular system: there is the wall hanger on the wall and the so-called picture module on the image itself. The picture module is equipped with the EasyClick system, which allows for easy hanging of your canvas. You probably know the situation: the nail just doesn’t want to go into the eyelet of the picture, and men and women fumble for minutes trying to align the nail with the eyelet behind the picture. Those are horror stories from the past! The future is called: EasyClick from CanvasGAEKKO! This system enables you to easily hang your picture on the wall. Searching for a nail is a thing of the past: the picture module on the back of your canvas slides into the wall hanger. The picture module is designed in such a way that it is guided into the wall hanger. Here’s how it works: you position the canvas a few centimeters above the wall hanger on the wall, and then you move the canvas picture down: done! You will notice that the picture module finds the wall hanger and securely locks into place.
In comparison to the sawtooth hanger: You still have to search for and find the nail behind your picture with the sawtooth hanger. We wish you a lot of fun! (*Irony)
For all canvases with a wood frame thickness of 1.6 to 4.5 cm
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
Our CanvasGAEKKO comes with a picture module in the set that is suitable for any thickness of a canvas. Each canvas has a certain thickness, with most ranging between 1.6 and 2 cm. With the CanvasGAEKKO, you can hang pictures whose stretcher bars (wood frame of your canvas) measure between 1.6 and 4.5 cm in thickness. So, it doesn’t matter how thick your canvas is, whether you’re buying it or have already bought it. With the picture module, you even have the possibility to hang a new canvas photo with a different thickness than your old canvas without having to buy a new sawtooth hanger… because you don’t need a sawtooth hanger with the CanvasGAEKKO.
In comparison to the sawtooth hanger: You have to carefully check for which canvas thickness your sawtooth hanger is suitable. With some, you can only hang canvases that are 2 cm thick. If you then only have a canvas with a wood frame that is 1.6 cm thick, hanging it may still be easy, but your canvas will not be securely held on the wall.
For canvas prints with or without a center bar
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
There are canvas prints that, depending on the manufacturer or size, have a center bar: The center bar is usually located – as the name suggests – in the middle of the back of the print and has traditionally required the use of a nail (or screw) on the left and right sides of the wall to hang the print straight. Hanging the print becomes much more time-consuming and complicated. The CanvasGAEKKO solves this problem and minimizes the effort: the supplied image module can be attached to canvas prints with or without a center bar. If your canvas print has a center bar, the module is screwed directly next to the center bar. If your canvas print does not have a center bar, the module is simply screwed to the markings in the center of the print. As you can see, the center bar doesn’t matter.
Comparison: It’s different with the sawtooth hanger: In that case, unlike with the CanvasGAEKKO, for canvas prints with a center bar, you need to hammer a sawtooth hanger and a nail on the left and right sides at the same height in the wall to hang the print evenly and horizontally. Aligning the sawtooth hanger and nails on the wall brings various problems: Is the sawtooth hanger exactly in the same position as the nail on the wall? No? Then you may have to hammer the nail again in the wall. The effort is significantly more and it takes much more time to determine the same height for both nails or screws.
For all canvas print sizes
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
Depending on the size of your home, you naturally want to hang a correspondingly large canvas print. The CanvasGAEKKO is designed to hang all sizes of prints. From small to medium to large canvas prints, everything is possible. You only need one image module on the back of your print. The final weight of your print depends on your wall surface.
Comparison: With the sawtooth hanger, depending on the size of your print, you would also have to attach multiple sawtooth hanger. And for each sawtooth hanger, you would need to hammer a nail or screw in the right place on the wall. The larger your print, the more effort on the wall and the more holes you will have in the wall in the end.
Changing canvas prints anytime (modular system)
1 point for the CanvasGAEKKO
0 points for the sawtooth hanger
Who doesn’t know this? You get tired of decorations and want to bring in some new colors! Nothing could be easier! With the CanvasGAEKKO and the modular system, you can easily switch between your different canvas prints. Imagine: each print has its own image module mounted on the back (alternatively, you can simply unscrew the module from one print and attach it to another) and the wall hanger is on the wall of your apartment. Now you can change your canvas print as you please: grab the canvas print on the left and right, pull it upwards out of the wall hanger, and easily snap your next print into the wall hanger. Done! You don’t have to hammer in new nails or screws.
Comparison: With the sawtooth hanger, depending on the size of the print you want to change, you would also have to hammer in new nails on the wall so that the new print hangs straight and not tilted like the old one. We have seen walls with 5 nails hammered in a line for this reason: the canvas print was always changed and a new one of a different size was hung.
