The dream of your own home: Living in a prefabricated house

You live in a prefabricated house and want to hang your pictures on a wall in the prefabricated house? With the GAEKKO hanging system you can now hang your pictures and photos on the wall of your prefabricated house.

Having your own house is the dream of many families. Prefabricated houses usually have shorter construction times than houses in solid construction. In addition, the calculation of construction costs is relatively fixed and the quality has also steadily improved. Prefabricated houses offer some advantages, but also have some disadvantages and pitfalls that builders should be aware of.

The term prefabricated house is often used when a house is built using timber construction rather than bricks or concrete. This is often referred to as timber frame or timber panel construction. While a solid house has to be built brick by brick, a prefabricated house is brought to the building site in large, prefabricated parts and assembled directly on site.

In the past, many prefabricated houses used vapour barriers where moisture could not escape once it got into the walls. Due to a damaged vapour barrier or improper insulation, mould growth on the interior walls was pre-programmed. This is no longer the case today and so you need not worry at all about hammering a nail or screw into the wall when hanging pictures.

What do I have to bear in mind when hanging pictures in a prefabricated house?

The material and structure of a prefabricated house wall differs depending on the timber construction method and manufacturer. The wall structure when building a house with a prefabricated house company can look simplified like this: First of all, a wood fibre board is placed on top of the wooden studs of the exterior wall, followed by a sheet of plasterboard as the second layer and another sheet of plasterboard as the third layer, arranged in a butt-jointed manner.

These lightweight walls, which are increasingly used in prefabricated houses, are really light and anything but thick. Nevertheless, the walls are strong enough to hold pictures, toys or small shelves. In this article you will find out what you need to fix pictures to your wall in a prefabricated house.

How do I fix pictures to a wall in a prefabricated house?

Hi guys,

I am currently working on the interior of our new home (prefabricated house in timber frame construction). Unfortunately, I haven’t found any information on the net about hanging pictures in a prefabricated house. The wall in my prefabricated house is a plasterboard wall (made of 12.5 mm plasterboard) with a 16 mm chipboard behind it. At least that’s what the prefabricated house company says.

From plasterboard dowels, to expansion dowels, to cavity dowels, I have now already discovered a few hanging options for my pictures on plasterboard. These lightweight walls don’t seem to offer the best conditions when it comes to hanging mirrors, cupboards or pictures.

There is really an insane amount of feedback and also ideas on how to attach pictures to a plasterboard wall. My initial fear has therefore already been allayed somewhat. However, I have not yet been able to find a 100% solution for my pictures. The situation is as follows:

I have a cool picture on acrylic glass. The problem is that this picture has no fastening on the back. I didn’t find it visually appealing to mount the picture on the wall with simple nails or screws. I also didn’t want to spoil my new Gispkarton wall with drill holes. Do you have any ideas on how I can hang my pictures on the wall without nails, screws or special dowels? It would be great if you could share your experiences with me.

Thanks & Regards

Michael
