Hanging pictures - without holes, nails, drilling

A nail in the wall not only looks unsightly, it also always leaves a hole in the wall. You want to hang up your pictures without leaving holes in the wall? You wonder if this is possible at all?

With small and light pictures, there is always the possibility of hanging pictures without nails. You can read about the different methods and how to fix pictures to the wall without drilling holes in the wall in our guide.

You want to hang up your picture without drilling holes in the wall? With our self-adhesive picture hangers, you can leave the drill or hammer in the drawer and stick your pictures on the wall from now on!

Hang up pictures without drilling a hole

There are some solutions that allow you to hang your pictures on the wall without a drill and therefore without drilling holes. The most important thing to consider when hanging a painting without drilling holes is the weight of your painting. If your painting weighs more than 3-4 kilograms, you have no choice but to use a drill or hammer. For all other pictures there are self-adhesive solutions.

Adhesive tape: You can use adhesive tape or double-sided tape to stick very light pictures such as photos or posters to the wall. You can roll up normal adhesive tape into small holders and stick them to the 4 corners of the back of the picture. With double-sided tape or double-sided tape, you can simply use four strips for each corner and press the picture firmly onto the wall. With colourful washi tape, you can even create a fancy frame by simply sticking the tape over the photo like a frame. If the adhesive effect is not strong enough, you also have the option of using mounting tape instead of tape. Our tips: When using mounting tape, however, you should make sure that you do not tear half the wallpaper or plaster off the wall when removing it. Therefore, you should not pull the mounting tape out of the socket like a plug, but loosen it by turning it so that the plaster does not come off the wall.

Magnetic paint: With magnetic paint on your wall and the right magnets, you can also attach your pictures to the wall without nails. The paint has a high iron content, while the magnetic paint itself is not magnetic. Magnetic paint is particularly suitable for pictures without frames, such as postcards. Magnetic paint is also particularly suitable if you want to design a creative photo wall with several photos and want to change your hanging frequently.

Picture rails & gallery rails or picture rails: Admittedly, with picture rails as well as picture rails you cannot completely avoid holes in your wall. But once the gallery rail or picture rail has been initially attached to the wall. You can redecorate your pictures as often as you like without having to re-drill.

A picture rail or gallery rail usually consists of the rail, the picture hooks for fastening your picture frames, the ropes for suspension and the corresponding mounting material. The picture rail or gallery rail allows you to move your pictures horizontally and vertically. In addition, you do not need to hammer nails into your wall. Thanks to the flexible picture hooks on the rope suspension of the gallery rail, you can still correct the desired picture position afterwards and arrange your pictures along the picture rail as you please.

If you like to rearrange your pictures often, a picture rail is a good alternative. The picture rail is fixed to the wall once with screws or steel nails and can then be re-equipped with pictures again and again. Of course, there is always the option of placing your favourite pictures against the wall on a shelf.

Hanging pictures - no more crooked pictures

When it comes to placing pictures, most people measure the distance between the eyelets, then drill holes in the wall and notice when hanging the picture that the distance and height are no longer correct. The result: the picture hangs crooked or cannot be hung at all.

Drilling again or laborious readjustment is often the result. With the following trick, pictures can be mounted easily and straight on the wall, regardless of whether they have a normal picture frame or are made of Forex or Alu-Dibond:

Turn the picture onto its reverse side
Stretch painter’s masking paper (or adhesive tape) between the eyelets of the picture frame and press lightly at the ends.
Mark the position of the eyelets on the crepe paper with a pencil.
Remove the crepe paper from the back of the picture and attach it to the wall in the desired position. Tip: With woodchip or wallpaper, only press the ends lightly to avoid leaving residue on the tape when you remove it later.
Use a spirit level to check that the tape is optimally positioned.
The points marked with the pencil can now be drilled or nailed through.
After screws and co. have been attached to the wall, the crepe paper can be removed and the picture hung up.
Tip: If you don’t want to leave any holes in the wall, you can use self-adhesive picture hangers from GAEKKO. You can find a large selection for pictures and photos in our shop.

A simple trick for hanging pictures quickly & securely

This simple way of aligning pictures is especially suitable for framed objects as well as Forex and Alu-Dibond pictures. For this trick you need the following:

a sturdy cord, rope or wire
two screws (for light pictures you can also use two nails)
a hook or alternatively another screw incl. dowel
The screws are fastened to the back of the picture frame at the same height in the middle. Nails can also be used for light pictures. Then connect the screws or nails with the string. It is important that the cord sags a little between the ends. Now attach the hook to the wall. If you don’t have a hook at hand, you can use a screw with a wide head, which is fixed to the wall with a dowel. Now place the picture with the cord on the hook. By simply moving it back and forth, the picture can now be moved into the optimal position.

If you do not want to damage the picture frame or the frame does not allow for drilling, you can use our self-adhesive picture hangers. The hangers are suitable for any picture and can be attached to the wall in just a few minutes. You can find a large selection in our shop.
